Apple Configurator is a software based solution which applies organizational policies, installs apps, and configures settings for multiple Apple devices. Since Apple Configurator is software based, the devices cannot be managed remotely and need to be physically attached to the computer which has the software installed. While this can be a deal breaker for some, if you can look past this limitation, Configurator has many of the same features available in cloud based MDM platforms. Administrator’s can create preset templates or profiles with different policies and apps. Apple Configurator can be linked to an organization’s VPP account to all apps to be downloaded and installed. For small organizations or schools, Apple Configurator remains a viable solution.
