As the name implies, WiFi uses wireless frequency or radio waves to communicate with devices. The frequencies are measured in Gigahertz (GHz). While gigahertz is most commonly used to measure processor speed, it can also measure other parts of the computer including wireless networking capability. WiFi uses two primary categories of radio frequencies to communicate: 2.4GHz and 5GHz. The 2.4GHz frequency can provide greater range but has slower speeds while 5GHz band is much faster but has limited coverage. Although many types of Wireless routers exist, they are all compatible with our devices because of an international standard known as IEEE 802.11.
